AI engineer and independent builder
I’m Brian Sithu, an AI engineer from Myanmar. I started building software because I liked the idea that a single person with a laptop could create something useful and put it in front of people anywhere in the world. That idea still drives most of what I do.
Background
My work is mostly focused on web products: frontend interfaces, backend systems, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and increasingly AI-powered applications.
I’m comfortable taking a product from an early idea to something running in production: designing the application structure, building the interface, implementing backend services, integrating third-party services, containerizing, and deploying to the cloud.
Now
I work as a contractor and freelance AI engineer, building AI products across agent systems, retrieval, evaluation, and cloud infrastructure. In my own time I experiment with products, developer tools, AI agents, and small software businesses.
I’m most interested in where engineering meets product thinking: figuring out what is worth building, building it quickly without sacrificing quality, and improving it based on what real users do next. Long term, I want to keep building products people pay for, on a strong team or on my own.
Principles
I like software that is simple, useful, and reliable. I care about good engineering, but I try not to over-engineer things that don’t need it, and I choose technology for the problem rather than for its own sake.
Lately I’ve been learning about production AI systems, retrieval, DevOps, and the business side of software: distribution, pricing, and what separates products people pay for from projects that are simply interesting to build.

Outside
Outside work I spend most of my time learning, exploring new products, going to the gym, and occasionally traveling around Thailand and Southeast Asia. Chiang Mai has turned out to be a pretty good place to build things from.
